This unit identifies how transport has become an integrated part of society and essential to how our modern society functions. Recent disruption events have shown how dependent communities are on transportation systems. The unit explores why we rely so heavily on transportation, how transport constantly evolves to meet changing demands, and the rural and urban service patterns including specialised vehicles, mixed passenger/goods movements common in developing markets, and local legislation and infrastructure considerations.
