Management involves controlling, directing, leading, planning, and staffing an organisation to achieve a pre-set goal or several goals. This unit covers how managers apply skills and experience to manage operations and staff both efficiently and effectively — across two main areas: managing operations (the management corridor, line and functional management, customers, business planning, investment, environmental impact) and managing people (motivation, Maslow's hierarchy, career motivations, managing personalities, legal obligations, appraisal and development, performance monitoring, and change).
